Populous: The Beginning was released in 1997 by Bullfrog and even ten years after its launch, its popularity is as strong as ever. The numerous amount of websites that have been made for the game are a clear indication that it still lives and hopefully will continue to!
EA's decision to end the matchmaker service in January 2004 caused upset in the Populous world but their actions were understandable, given the age of the game and the new releases that clearly needed more attention. Despite this, Populous fans continued on and began to create their own matchmaker services, levels and games which are still popular today.
Recently in 2007, there have been rumours on the net that EA was thinking about revisiting Populous. As of yet, nothing has come to light but as fans, we remain hopeful.
