Tricks with building a base

One of the most important tricks in populous is harvesting. Without it you haven't wood enough to build huge and strong base - often there is much less tree than we require. Good example is yellow's base in FO map - yellow has to harvest many trees. Remember that fully cut trees need 330 seconds to grow back and partially cut ones need 68 seconds.
Select two or three braves; hold Ctrl key and click on tree, then on ground, than on second tree, on ground etc. You can increase the amount of wood in this way. Braves are producing mana because they are moving. Players harvest as often as time allows them to do this, especially when his shaman is dead or when enemy play more defensive game.
Sometimes you want get large amount of wood from one place to another (for example from an oasis, where there are lots of the trees, to your base in the desert, where are no trees). Select few braves, hold Ctrl key, click on tree in oasis and then on ground in your base. All braves are going to oasis, cutting as many trees as they can carry and coming back to base.
Tree economy is one of the most important things in game especially on map where is poor amount of wood like FO or Craters (on this map you can't win without harvesting). There are also some maps where you have loads of trees. There you don't have to harvest and you can focus on fast building or hut upgrading.
Another important thing is fast hut upgrading. Best players control braves amount in each hut. You can upgrade your huts in fastest way when you put in 3 braves into it and 3 wood pieces in front of entrance to hut. Select the braves in hut, hold Ctrl key, click on the tree and then on empty hut.
Experienced players use one more popular trick to make his mana best - they use dismantle trick. Start dismantling hut, let brave take out one piece of wood and then stop dismantling and build hut. When brave end this work you can see that green bar is full and second brave born. This is very useful tip. Players use it very often, especially in FO map. You can use dismantle trick on several huts in one time. It takes some time to do this but after few games it is easy and fast trick.
Always control your amount braves in huts. Firstly upgrade your huts in the centre and bottom of the base and then in front. It's good idea because enemy destroys huts in the front of the base usualy at first 5 mins.
You can train fast base building and huts upgrade in single player game. Using only advices on this page you should have mana like this:
27 braves and charged eq spell in 3:57, without convert spell, 6 braves at game start - you have to be better!
What is the faster way to put a lot of the wood in front of the huts? Select group of braves, hold Shift key and click on wood or tree. All braves are putting wood in front of the huts, hut plans and damaged huts.

There is also one more way to harvest a lot and build your base very fast. Select two braves, hold CTRL key, click on the tree and then on the hut plan. It has several attitudes:
- intensive harvesting - you have wood enought to upgrade huts and build towers for defence
- you don't waste time - without your commands braves will go for the wood as well
- you save trees - braves get 3rd piece of wood from the nearest tree and don't fully cut it
- faster upgrade - 2 braves enter to the hut, 3rd brave borns and hut is fully filled
