REMEMBERING THE PAST
Never before had our settlement celebrated as much as we did that night. I had never known the town to be so lively for something that seemed so small and insignificant. I never got a chance to really talk to Rhünilde until dawn had risen the next day. Still then, celebrations were continuing. I, however, had managed to get a good night's rest.
   As I headed to the lake, I happened to meet Rhünilde walking by herself. I was quite surprised - I had thought she would have at least been surrounded by people.
'Rhünilde?' I called out faintly. She looked up and smiled.
'Well Arra,' she said. 'Didn't expect that, did we?'
'No, not really,' I said honestly. 'I had no idea what way it was going to turn out.' I stopped and felt ashamed to look at her. She immediately noticed my sudden change.
'What's the matter?' she asked.
   I couldn't bring myself to tell the truth as she

persisted with the question. Finally, I gave in.
'It just feels weird,' I said. 'I mean, you're the Shaman now Rhünilde - the one that this settlement has been waiting for. Eighteen years is a long time to wait and well … even though you're the same, you're … well, different.'
'I don't want this to get in between our friendship Arra,' Rhünilde said genuinely. I nodded, agreeing.
'I feel the same way. It's just … well, wow - you're the Shaman!'
'It's something different, isn't t?' she laughed.
'What's it like?' I asked, before staring at the ground once again in shame and humiliation. 'Sorry, that was a dumb question.'
'No it wasn't. Anyone would feel the same way. Had both our places been switched -'
'- thank the heavens they haven't!' I interrupted. 'Sorry, I shouldn't have …'
'Look Arra - I know I'm the Shaman but I am your friend as well. There is no need for formalities or anything like that. We should be able to continue with our friendship like we did yester
