TRUST TAP! My eyes suddenly opened and I blinked several times until my eyes had adjusted to the extreme black. It was the middle of the night, dark and cold. Did I just hear something? A noise? TAP! TAP! TAP! 'Who's there?' I called out, walking slowly towards my window. The noise seemed to be coming from there. Maybe it was just a tree branch … but then, I wasn't sure. 'It's me!' said a familiar voice. 'Rhünilde?' I questioned, opening the curtains. And there, having climbed up the nearby tree was the Shaman. 'What on earth are you doing?' I asked, pulling her into my bedroom. 'Thought I'd come and say hello,' she said, smiling, dusting herself down. 'It's been a long day - didn't get a chance to talk to you again after this morning.' But now that I was awake, there was no way I'd get back to sleep or hear the end of it if I stayed. 'Alright,' I said reluctantly. 'But this better be quick. I don't want my parents to notice that I've gone.' 'They won't know - and stop worrying!' Rhünilde said as she began to make her way back down the tree. I drew the curtains back further and sighed. Just as I was about to swing my leg over, I heard footsteps.
