Xatos was a legendary, semi-mythological Populous player who is currently almost completely unknown but was ranked by several good old players to be one of the best, often number one, player of the earliest days of Populous.

Players such as The_king_dbm and Arnie009 (red_ruM/F5-Twister) have ranked Xatos as number one.

The mythological cult around Xatos is indicated by several facts. For instance, Arnie009, one of the oldest players, once ranked Xatos as number one while implying that he was the same person as Myth (an alias of DBM), and later once again ranked Xatos as number one, commenting that he “never saw” him, and DBM as 2nd.

The_king_dbm (Myth), widely recognized as one of the best if not the best player of the late 1990s to early 2000s, had this to say about Xatos:

I wish you guys could have played Ampmaster. I know you guys think “back then good is only semi good now” but he was amazing. He probably had OCD or something but a force that’s for sure. And Xatos was that much better. He was unbeatable.
